Wild Yoga returns to Woodberry Wetlands for the summer months due to popular demand. Our outdoor yoga classes will now take place every Thursday evening on the lawn adjacent to the Coal House amongst the wildlife and picturesque waterside setting and is an incredible way to connect mind, body and spirit with the natural world.
Swapping artificially lit indoor spaces, for time spent amongst reeds swaying in the reservoir breeze under open skies filled with birdsong can have a tremendous effect on one’s well-being. Keeping the body toned, getting stronger, healthier and more flexible whilst calming the mind are some of the many benefits of yoga. When it is practised in a natural environment, its effectiveness is further amplified as we breathe more deeply and relax more completely.
Taught by an experienced BWY accredited teacher, Wild Yoga is a slow-flowing class where classic yoga postures are linked together with the breath. A typical class may include standing poses, balances, backbends and seated poses, and modifications will be suggested for those wishing to work more gently. Please wear loose/stretchy, comfortable clothing and as we will be outdoors bring a warm layer too. Yoga is best done on an empty stomach, but if hungry have something light like a piece of fruit a while beforehand. Please let the teacher know of any injury or condition that might affect your practice. Yoga mats are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own if preferred.
Whenever possible, Wild Yoga will take place on the west bank of Woodberry Wetlands’ East Reservoir accessible from the reserve’s main entrance. However, in the case of bad weather, it will be held indoors at the adjacent Grade II listed Coal House where views of stunning surrounds may still be seen from under cover.
These outdoor classes are very popular and it is advisable to book in advance.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Karen Mitchell has been teaching yoga for 5 wonderful years and practicing for over 15. She trained with the highly respected YogaCampus and is accredited by the British Wheel of Yoga. She first came to yoga to help manage stress, and stayed with it because she loved how yoga made her feel – more open, more aware, more alive. She believes yoga is for everyone, irrespective of age, fitness and flexibility and encourages students to listen to their bodies and practice patiently and with awareness.
